I love my country and I love my state. What I loved about that day, if one can say that there is anything at all to be "loved" about that day, is that it brought us all together, if only for a short moment as one nation, undivided and indivisable ready to love and help each other no matter what. It was a horrific and terrifying moment even being far away in my state of Texas!! Everyone will always remember where they were and what they were doing when they heard, when they saw the horrible events of that day. It is also my understading that MeetUp groups started because of 911, that afterwards people realized they did not even know their neighbors and felt alone, wanted to reach out in the community.

Good going Mary. I don't know if you know it or not but my wife Judi is also an aspiring writer. She also writes really well and has a Masters degree in Psychology and Journalism. Anyway, I bought her an ebook for her birthday last week, she loves the thing. Me, being the instigator and promoter, suggested to her that she should finish her novel that she has been working on for the last ten years and let me put it in pdf format and make an ebook out of it to sell online. Think about it; no cost to print, internet marketing and instant pay off upon a download. Think about that possibility Mary

Your 24 year old friend is a jerk who practices blatant age discrimination. What goes around will come around.

My grandmother often spoke of life during the Great Depression. Her home was always full of people whom she considered less fortunate than she was. Neither she nor my grandfather had jobs but they had a farm and never lacked for food. People survived this time because they were willing to extend a hand one to another.

Recently, a woman whom I’ve only met once, offered to feed us if we were hungry. This woman was laid off from her job last year and only recently secured a temporary contract job. In making her offer, she simply stated that others fed her when she lost her job and that she was happy to share what she had. Even though I did not need the help, it was an incredibly kind offer to receive from a relative stranger. She put her caring and compassion for another human being into action. If the current trend continues, then I hope that more like her will rise up and put their personal beliefs and faith into action. I suspect that just as in my grandmother's day, we'll all need to pull together to survive if the current economic situation does not improve soon.

I’m generally an optimist as well. Right now, perhaps I’m simply too close to the problem but I’ve lost a measure of my optimism. Please keep being hopeful for all of us who are discouraged! I sincerely hope that you are right and that your optimism is well placed!
